I am obsessed with the Ratchet and Clank games. I like any good action platformer, really. The Ratchet games are awesome because the story is great (I guess the English teacher in me always wants a good story!) and there is plenty of mayhem and destruction. I don't really like blood-and-guts violence but cartoon violence amuses me. I love all the wacky weapons in the games, too. The puzzle areas are also intriguing. There is going to be some INSANE puzzle stuff using Clank in this next game that I know is going to be really challenging!
Jak and Daxter is another series that is high on my list, too. I don't like the racing spin-offs, though, like the Jak Combat Racing or whatever it is. (I suck at racing games so I try to avoid them at all costs! DH loves them, especially any of them that are made by Sega). The racing parts in the Ratchet games annoy me because I *have* to play them in order to beat the game. I'd rather just destroy a whole bunch of stuff in an arena battle or something.
Even though "Ratchet" rocks, my favorite platform game of all time is probably "Sonic CD." I was extremely obsessed with Sonic when I was in middle school. I even read the comic books, LOL! (I have the TV series -- the *good* one from the mid-90s -- on DVD, too). Obsessed much? Probably.
It's pretty hard to compare old-school Sonic games with the "Ratchet" games and say which I would like better if I had to choose. They're just completely different styles of games.
Oh yeah... Here's the "good ending" to Sonic CD:
Yup, this game was freaking sweet.
