Had a chick that i had to help out as he had been going for a day but hadnt hatched and was struggling, his foot is clubbed and has not straightened out yet unlike the others, he hobbles about a bit and can move ok but walks on it as it is in the image above (click to make it bigger) is there anything i could or should do to help him in any way?

many thanks

first off, cut out a bit of card to have the a hole the same size as your desired foot shape...

Second, apply Elastoplast fabric strapping tape to the back (to stop the toes from going all the way through) and leave a flap to fold over the top....

Sterilise the foot of the chick using a alcohol wipe then place the foot in the template as follows....

Then fold over the tape doing a toe at a time and ensuring the toes stay in the grooves!

Add 2 small straps of tape going around the foot the other way to ensure the foot will not slip out of the device..

And here is my chick with his new shoes on!

I don't know how long you should leave the shoes on for but I have to say that your pictures on how to make them and put them on the feet are really great! I haven't had to do this for a chick yet but from what I have read on here, the earlier you do this, the better the results are. Great job!

Well done! Great pics too, those will help many others in the future.

I'd leave it until it gets dirty, say 3-5 days? Then take it off, see how it goes. Reapply if needed.
