Gap Between Wall and Roof. Question...

My student-built tractor is coming along. They put the walls up yesterday and are building the roof today. The question I have for you guys is this...There will be approx a 3" gap between the wall and roof. Is this big enough for a chicken to get out? Is it big enough for a predator to get in? They can cover it with wire but I didn't want them to go to the trouble if you guys thought it wasn't a big deal. Take a look at the pictures.

Cover it with wire!! The space will give you some good ventilation!

Your chickens won't be able to get out, but predators WILL be able to get in (especially mice, rats, possums, weasels).

I agree!! Best to be safe than sorry. I would use hardware cloth as the wire is smaller and stronger.​

I use hardware cloth on the outside and fine wire screen on the inside. A weasel can climb through a one inch hole. Snakes etc. In the winter if i need to cover them because of cold I cut insulation and stuff it there. Between the tin roof and side board in the up and down groves,I use the stuff plumbers use to fill holes. I hope this helps. My hb says I want to build fort knox LOL. Jean

I did this on purpose on mine... and covered it in wire mesh. It's just the right size for the vents I needed. I did it on the front and back by actually lifting the roof.
