Hey all,
I'm converting an old horse stall into a coop. The stall has bars (shown below) that are 3 inches part. In the picture, there is also a gap near the top that's 2.5 inches wide.

Are those gap sizes small enough to keep predators out (not counting the arms reaching in)?

I'd rather not have to staple some welded wire fencing (2x4) over it if I don't have to.

Depends on how many predators can get into the building, but there will still be mice and rats...

you will need 1/4 inch*1/4 inch welded wire or hardware cloth to me mostly predator proof.

roof rats can get through tiny gaps (the sphere a spinning dime makes is large enough for juveniles, the sphere a spinning nickle makes for adults) - and they will eat eggs and steal feathers for nest.

In fact even young possums and coons can get in that size spacing foxes can get through 4*4 inches (confirmed) and young foxes smaller gaps,
I think adult coons need 4 inches * 3 inches

and not to mention large snakes, any snake can get through that gap (and snakes, rat, coons all climb well), most will eat eggs, some will eat chicks or chickens.
