Gape worm?

She is getting pea sized amount orally daily of the safeguard paste. I can get the oxytetracycline and start it. I have tylan 50 injectable. How much of that given orally? How much oxytetracycline if I go with that. Thank you all so much for your advise

How much does she weigh?

From left to right:
Small = 10mg ( .1cc)
Medium = 25mg (.25cc)
Large = 50mg ( .5cc)

From what I read in a study, the most effective dose for treating gapeworms is .2ml per 2.2 pounds for three days. For something like a big Rhode Island Red that would be ~.6ml for three days.

FYI, I have many chickens, peafowl and guineas and I have only seen gapes in one in the last five years. Not saying it's not gapes, just that it's not common in my flock.

I think Tylan 50 dosage is flexable, in Plumb's Handbook, they say 5-20 mg per pound of weight. I would give 1-2 ml orally. If giving the shots, I would use 1 ml.

I just had her shipped in from georgia 2 weeks ago. She came with the sneeze and it has progressed from there. The man I got her from just said she needed to be wormed the end of the month. Now he wont answer my messages

Then the dosage orally would be 1/4-1/2 ml, 1/4 ml as a shot. She may have been a carrier of something, or even gapeworm, but the stress of shipping adds to her problem I'm sure. OEG's are sweet--I have one hen as a pet.

So about 600 grams... Exact amount to give would be .12ml, less than exact would be larger than the small pea, smaller than the medium. FWIW, I have given my OEGB's twice that and seen no side effects, so don't worry about that.

OEGB's are the best! Love the few I have left.
