We lost a hen about 6 months ago to what we believe was gapeworm. We treated the pen, nest and coop with Diatomaceous earth, and thought we were good. We now believe another hen has the same thing and we'd like to treat her before she succumbs to it. And we want to avoid any of our other ladies contracting it. I use essential oils myself and I know there are anti parasitics. Has anyone had any success with essential oil treatments?

Gapeworm is serious and requires intensive treatment with real wormers to get rid of them. Essential oils aren't going to touch them. You need to treat with Safeguard given for five days straight or valbazen given for three days straight.

Additionally, just so you know for the future, DE does not work as a wormer and is not effective at all for worming chickens.

Are you sure it's gapeworm? What are the symptoms? Gapeworm is fairly rare in chickens.

Thank you for the info. She is wheezy and shaking her head
