I have a young pullet with gapeworm. They have been on flubenvet for 2 days now but she is getting worse and losing weight. Must the powder be mixed with oil or is it ok dry mixed in with the pellets? Is there anything else I can do? Should she pull through after the 7 days?
Thanks

Powder can fall down to the bottom of dry food. Try feeding it to her on some moistened wheat bread or watermelon to get it into her system.

Gapeworms are fairly rare in chickens. Are you sure she has them and not something else like fowl pox?

I hope she gets better soon. Best of luck!

Thanks for replying. She gasps for air and extends her neck as she breathes while making a sort of wheezing sound. I do think this is gapeworm but I might be wrong and she also sneezes often. Also lost a lot of weight. Only bought her a few weeks ago and has been inside most of the time bar 2 days she was outside. I have mixed in some oil to make the powder stick to the pellets.

It sounds more like she may have a respiratory disease such as MG or ILT. Do you see any bloody mucus in or around her beak? MG will respond to antibiotics such as Tylosin and tetracycline drugs, while ILT is a virus. ILT is usually a reportable disease. In the UK, antibiotics probably have to come from hour vet.

Thanks for replying she seems better today after the flubenvet. Here in Ireland I can get Tylan or Baytril if the problem persists.

What is MG and ILT?

Myocplasma gallisepticum and infectious laryngotracheitis are 2 of the common respiratory infections in poultry. Testing by a vet or poultry center could tell if it were one of those.
