My chicken has been making an odd noise the best way I can describe it is a cry- I’m not tech savvy enough to figure out how to add a video of her. She does it all day, mouth open, shakes her head when she sneezes and kind of stretches her neck out but not 100% of the time. I’m a newer chicken keeper never experienced this. Does this sound like gapeworm to y’all? I’ve given the girls a concoction of oats, ACV, cayenne pepper and garlic. But not sure if I need to get actual dewormer and what kind to get. Thanks in advance!

Gapeworm can be treated with a wormer, SafeGuard liquid goat wormer or horse paste at your feed store. Dosage is 0.25 ml (1/4 ml) per pound given orally undiluted for 5 consecutive days. Shake it well. If she is 5 pounds dosage is 1.25 ml.

More than like she has a respiratory disease, such as infectious bronchitis, mycoplasma gallisepticum (MG,) coryza, or perhaps ILT. Testing would identify the disease. She may be making the sound of stridor, and head shaking is a way to get rid of the mucus in her airways. Do you see any bubbles or foamy eyes, any gunk from her nostrils or eyes? Do you have any antibiotics such as Tylosin? Your vet could help or you could get it by next week from Jedds.com. LA200, Denagard, and doxycycline are some others used. Your vet or farm vet might be helpful. Are any others acting similar? There is a video of a silkie with stridor in post one below, and is this what you are hearing:

No discharge from eyes or nostrils. I had one girl do this 2 days ago but it went away the next morning and now this other girl started today. The sound is very similar to stridor I never heard of that so thank you for that information! I don’t have any medication except some rooster booster water additive and I was planning to get some VetRx
