Question: I have a broody silkie and when she comes out from the nest she gapes/yawns (adjusting crop?) and does a lot of swiping her face on the grass. I didn't see anything alive and 'moving' around her eyes etc. I dusted the dusting areas and nesting areas with diamataceous (sp?) powder. Should I be concerned about pests? What should I look for?

They do adjust their crops and it looks like yawning. Nothing to worry about unless they are gasping for breath or gape a lot.

Swiping her face on the grass is cleaning her beak, most likely.

All sounds OK to me.
