Garage coop

I thought about the same thing. I think I am going to chance it. I never let the car run without the garage door open, and I never leave the car idle in the garage for any reason....door open or not.

I have been thinking about making a place for my ducks in a shed out behind my house. Has anyone tried keeping ducks in the garage? Do you think they would be too messy? What about if you cleaned them out often....

This is my first time keeping ducks and I've never been through a winter with them, but they seem to actually like bad weather. We've had alot of rain and several severe storms here and I can't get them to go into their pen for anything. The last storm we had was really bad and I tried to coax them into the garage with the chickens but they wanted nothing to do with it. They just stood in the middle of the yard, all lined up facing the wind and rain and waited it out. I was a nervous wreck. All I can suggest is to make some type of shelter available to them but don't expect them to use it much. Maybe it also depends on the type of duck

We live in the city limits and after walking our lot and realizing the only locations are either alongside the neighbor's fence (not enough of a legal setback) or on the far part of our lot and visible to passersby (college town; vandalism isn't infrequent -- wouldn't feel comfortable with the chickens so far from our hearing) we've decided to build a coop in the garage with a covered run outside the garage wall. The run won't be visible to either neighbors or people walking by and will be within our hearing. We also have a lot of predators -- skunks, raccoons, possums -- so the garage with a concrete floor and sturdy construction will be safe.

Very helpful to see the photos and comments from people who have garage coops. Wanted to mention that this was the first one I found and the one that set us on this path.

Here is the inside under construction

I couldn't see the last two pictures, but how did you ventilate the garage?

First day in the new coop at six weeks old:

Hope this gives you some idea of the setup.  I took the last picture because I got a kick out of how the baby chickens wanted to roost on those 4 X 4's that I had put along the bottom of the fence.  They are there because some of the older hens had pushed under the temporary fence to get to the baby chickens' treats after finishing their own.  So now the baby chickens decided to roost there, with their faces mashed against the fence, to watch the older hens.  Guess I will have to fix up an outdoor roost for them.

You can just see the run and coop on the left where the older hens live, but they are out in their yard all day.
