I love advice towards roost maintenance for those with the Garden Coop (or similar). I have two branch perches and the chickens use them well. Therefore, I only have two lines of droppings in the morning. I have a pine shavings bed laid over linoleum and would like advice for the best way to manage this. Trays/pans would seem a bit crowded in there. Should I just not put down the shavings and then scrape the linoleum daily?

Thanks!

Some people use "poop boards" They place these strategically at night, under the roost on the floor, and that catches the poop, then they scoop it off daily. You could use a trowl or scraper to scrape the poo off of the board each day.

Does anyone have photographs of their roost set up for this coop?

Thanks!

I don't have that coop, but I do use pine shavings over linoleum. I keep a 5 gallon bucket with lid next to the coop (with holes drilled in the bucket & lid for ventilation). Every morning I just scoop the clumps of poo litter into the bucket & ruffle the litter up a bit in the coop. If necessary I throw a couple of handfuls of new litter in there. Takes just a couple of minutes. Once a week I dump the poo bucket into the compost bin.

Keeps the coop clean, and there's no smell from the coop or the bucket. I didn't want sand in the coop, and the idea of scraping poop off a board didn't appeal to me.
