I have 4 chickens in a large ish enclosure however now the grass is gone in there they are getting very keen to get out... We don't have fencing on two entry points to our garden one is the with of a standard door, the other is the width of a single driveway. My partner doesn't want to put permanent gates here yet.

My question is for recommendations for something I can put up and take down easily for just when I'm letting the chickens out and packs down to just set to the side?

Also I have one little silkie that could easily be killed by a cat, are the bigger chickens likely to protect her?

As to your first question, if you are in the US of A I would suggest step in fence posts and garden fencing. They're easy to put in and take down, so I think that would work beautifully for you, and garden fencing is sturdy enough that the chickens shouldn't be able to get through it. Landscaping pins will offer extra security if you've got any birds that might try to push their way under.

As for the second, it's unlikely unless you have a rooster/cockerel.
