Garden Shed to Chicken Coop

Got a ton of work done over the weekend ................

Framing for the poop board and perch's ............................

and, it's in. The front perch is 6" above the poop board, and the back is 8". The whole thing is 2' off the floor, and about 8" below the window.

Boards are cut and laid out for the nesting boxes ................

and, their put together and installed. The boxes look like they are below the poop board, but they are 2' off the floor also. I used 1x2's for perch's in front of the box's, and a 1x10 as a ramp leading up to both poop board/perch's and nesting boxes.

2x4 studs cut and laid out for the storage separation wall .............

and, their put together and installed. I have 2, 2x4's stacked on top of each other on the floor so the pine shavings on the floor can be deep. 1/2" hardware cloth is on the wall. It will also be install over top, and over the door.

With the time change, I didn't have a lot of time left after my full time job to do much work on the coop. I did manage to get started on some ventilation holes to help with the smell inside.

Cut 2 1/8" holes in between the studs then covered them with 1/2" hardware cloth. Did this all the way around the building.

From the outside you can see how close the holes are to the roof over hang. You would have to have straight line rain in order for anything to get inside, and here in central NC, that is extremely rare.

The time change is really tough in that aspect.

Those holes will help some....can always drill more in the future.
Might want to drop your nests down lower...and you may need a more sharply angled board on top of them to dissuade roosting there.

Looking good!!

Had a long weekend so I got all the major work done that needed to be completed. They are a few minor things that need to be done, but they can wait.

Framed up a door, covered it with hardware cloth and hung it. Also cut a triangle piece of hardware cloth and mounted it from the wall to the rafters.

Storage areas between the building doors and the separation wall. I plan on hanging cleaning supplies out in this area.

Cut the pop door out. I mounted a piece of 2x4 down because I plan on having a good amount of pine shavings on the floor and want to try and keep as much of it inside as I can. I plan on installing a sliding pop door that can be opened from the front of the building.

Outside view of the pop door. 2x4 mounted at the bottom for the walk up ramp, and I installed more hardware cloth at the bottom of the building to keep critters from trying to get into the run from under the building. 2 more blocks are off to the side that will be used to help hold it down.

Opened up the old run and added the extra panel I bought, attaching the whole run to the building. It went from a 100 sq ft run to 200 sq ft by adding the extra panel and using the building to close it up.

Bought some Tuftex panels from Lowe's and used those to cover the new area of the run. Half the run is covered, and half is open. (Open but protected)

2 1/2 bugs of shavings down ................

............ and the chickens checking out their new digs.
