Gardeners - fertilzing suggestions needed

There is no accounting for an animals taste! My friends cat would pinch all the ripe tomatoes from her garden for snacking. So chickens aren't the only garden threat!

My cat munches down my garlic and onion tops. Re: your trees: What about those fertilizer spikes? I'm stumped. Good luck, and let us know how it goes.
I may use the fertilizer spikes as a last resort where I need to. Nursery advised against them if I could help it because for best results, you fertilize fruit trees at specific months, sometimes a different N-P-P depending on the season. The spikes leach out for 3 months which is not ideal but better then nothing at all. Looks like I will be trying a variety of things depending on the area in my yard.

How bout buying a roll of deer fencing? It comes in a 100' roll, and is 7' high. It's probably the cheapest fencing you can buy. You could cut it in half (so you have 3.5' x 200' to work with) and put it outside the drip line of the trees you want to fertilize to keep the chickens out. It wouldn't be pretty, but would get the job done. It might even work for you to suspend it horizontally about 8" off the ground around the trees. The girls would most likely avoid it rather than risk getting tangled in it. I'd prefer the vertical fencing myself. I plan to buy a roll this year to fence my garden and specific beds within my garden, so I can keep the girls out altogether, or allow them limited access.

Thank you.

I have read life expectancy where it is advertised, but we all now how that goes. I was hoping to get an opinion from someone familiar with it. I wonder how long it will last in the sun.

Again, Thank you.
