Trellis everything possible should be a slogan. :)

A way of life.....:)

I would love to see a picture of this if you can.
Could you share some pictures of your deck rail garden please? Sound interesting!

It's nothing fancy, easy peasy is our motto these days. We built our veranda deck 12 years ago with 2x6 rails. One day my wife found these rail pots at the garden center that fit over 2x6 deck rails. She has taken an array of those and set them on the rails during the growing season. They are each 1 ft deep x 1 ft wide x 30" long. The drainage is along the outside so the water doesn't damage the deck rails. It's perfect for herbs, flowers and small veggies. We can walk out of the kitchen and snip fresh herbs for cooking and smell the lavender and rosemary after each misting. We moved the rail pots into our greenhouse for the winter, but I'll look for a photo to share. Found something very similar online, price seems kinda high though, ours were $17.99 4 years ago.

Definitely get the stuff done while you can. I can't even do a fraction of what I used to do, and it only gets worse from here. My husband says I have a poor attitude, I say it's realistic.

I didn't use to have deer, but a brave mom has moved into our yard and eats my stuff. So far she hasn't invaded my garden, yet.
I’m feeling that every day.
We have many brave deer here. Small yard fence to keep the dogs in isn’t doing anything to keep the deer out. We’ve purposely planted things they don’t like but when I move garden here the fence will go higher.

I love it! I'm elated that I can buy it anywhere now. Having to go through a pain specialist for it was a pain in the posterior! Pun fully intended. Stink is better than tears from pain. ;)
We were surprised to find it in Wal-Mart a few years ago. We had to buy it from the chiropractor before that.

I have since stopped going to a chiropractor. I bought a body back buddy and I relieve my tight muscles myself. It has been a great help. Doesn't do much for the actual joints, but my muscles aren't as tight as they used to be.

Well, I have like an inch or two of top soil, then rock and then red clay. So trying to make a soil that will work well and is easy to weed. I've probably got a hundred garden books, but still just don't really get the whole soil farming thing. So I read and look for things I have or can get a hold of and go from there. Here's a look at my garden that went in late spring.

Tomatoes and peppers are hydroponic.
Everything looks beautiful - so green and lush!

Good idea thanks. We have several feet of rail that the deer could never reach. No fencing required. Now we’re getting somewhere. Two chickens with one stone.

Little trick with deer. Fishing line. I read about it I think on Mother Earth News or one of those magazines. We were having deer come in and nibble on our new fruit trees when we first planted them. A conservation officer warned us that we were in for a challenge and what they recommended people do is put in double fencing, at least 8 foot high and 4 feet apart. When we got done LOAO and he left we went to work finding an alternative to a break the bank fencing project. What we did was put T posts around the orchard and buy about 4 spools of the highest tension clear fishing line we could find. We put the line up like a fence, five strands high around the entire orchard and then we set back and waited.

The theory is that the deer cannot see the clear fishing line in the dark. They walk into it, feel resistance or get their heads hung up in it and panic thinking that something really wicked has a hold of them and they run for their lives immediately crossing the area off their buffet list.

It took maybe three nights before we found our first broken line about the level of a deer's head. We repaired the fence maybe a total of three times before we no longer had broken lines. We also no longer had a deer problem around our orchard. Last season we lost no fruit to deer although we did loose peaches to a thieving raccoon. So I do recommend the fish line fence idea to everyone. Even the conservation dept officer was impressed when we later talked to him.

@CapricornFarm. I tried the lidocaine aspercream tonight. My experiment was to try it on my right foot and leave the left untreated. Let's just say I need to let our 'friend' know how much her advice was appreciated because yes, I do believe it is helping my poor painful feet.

And yes, I would very much like to hear how to grow an bravado vine also!

Biofreeze is the bomb... I use it along with 1000 mg of Bayer Back & Body...unless the pain gets to an intolerable level then it's Tramadol time and the crib.View attachment 1209691
I can't take Tramadol, took it once and the room was spinning and i was writing backwards! Had to leave work.

What i do is cut tall saplings, like 10 feet high and weave them into my garden fence. I left the leaves on. Then i take wire and wrap it around each tree all the way around the garden, from tree to tree. Then i tie ripped up white cloth to the wire. The deer see it as a tall fence and stay out.

I've heard of this before. Glad to have confimation. Our biggest problem is crows eating the fruit. I've got the coons and deer under control, but the crows are smarter than they are. This year I tried a couple Garden Eyes and they worked well. I don't expect it to last though.
