Gardening with Chickens-1st year

This will be my first year that I have chickens and a garden. I'm wondering what precautions I need to take to make sure they don't tear up my garden.

I would like any information on this to. Last year I had to put high fences up and the smaller chicken kept flying in there anyway. The try to peck at my tomatoes and cucumbers through the fence. It has been a challenge.

We garden for market. Large, large scale. Once we're done in fall, we turn the birds loose in the fields. They dig, rip and shed every last square inch of it. If they were allowed access during the growing season? Let's just say there'd be very little left that looked like a garden. LOL

We protect against deer, but it also keeps the birds out.
