Gas Prices Soaring,How Has This Changed Your Life?

I just don't get people's reluctance to support it. It's a renewable resource. It's home-grown...doesn't have to be imported. It doesn't take more energy to produce it than it delivers......that may have been true at the beginning, but isn't anymore.

I don't agree with your analogy of the clearing of the rain forests......this ground is already in crop production.

People are always saying we should support our American companies and not other countries.....what's different about supporting American farmers?

Nothing Katy, its just the "average" american is so far removed from agriculture that they literally have no clue.

Sad, but true.

Best place to see this first hand, is a day at a petting zoo. Oh the things kids & parents say.

I agree..we NEED to support American farmers...
Pretty sad, indeed.
I always buy local veggies and corn..etc.. from our farmers markets.. (we have the BEST local corn..)

Our problem is our short growing season, so i HAVE to buy veggies from the store in our off growing season... and who knows where the heck they come from...

my power bill went up over $70. for each of the last 3 month when I asked why it went up she said that we ( the consumer ) is paying for gas for the trucks and damage in the sate from storms at the first of the year. ahhhh and in the mean time cant afford to do anything else. hay cost has risen like crazy try buying horse feel and scratch.. its up cause they're using corn for fuel

I really don't understand why people arent yelling and shouting. I would join in a protest and hold a sign. whats wrong here why arn't the news channels and the senators etc helping us. ????

Being in WI right now, I wish I could run my car on milk. A gallon of milk is waaay cheaper (1.99) than a gallon of gasoline.

I have a fuel efficient car, but only do driving when I must. I do a lot of city driving, and that is just freaking awful on my mileage. Give me a strait open highway, and I have gotten 44 mpg in a 2002 chevy prizm.

If you do some research you will find that using corn for ethanol production has very little to do with rising food prices. It's more the increased global demand for our crops. Corn is not the only grain they use to make ethanol either......in my area there are several plants that use milo, not corn for it.

Buy a small freezer and extra produce and stock up. That's what I do with my garden. About half of everything I grow winds up in the freezer. The only produce I buy in the winter is a few tomatoes and heads of lettuce. Everything else comes out of the freezer. Fresh picked corn that is frozen straight from the garden STILL tastes way better than anything you can get from the store ever.

We have to quit or cut back on the fun stuff (luckily the movie theater lowered prices to 5$ a movie!) But still, we don't go anywhere anymore. No more rides for fun. Luckily I got a lot of fun stuff in before prices went up!

My DH and I carpool for work, which is 40 min one way for me and an additional 15 min for him.

We can all our garden food, and meat. It doesn't cost any money to store canned food vs frozen foods. And it cuts down on some of the food costs... although it seems that now I still spend the same amount, just bring less stuff home with me.

We ride the motorcycles when the weather gets better.
