I have a full grown black copper marans rooster that has been gasping for about 3 days now. I am almost positive that he inhaled something because he is not acting sick, no one else is sick, he is still eating and drinking, but he just stands and gasps for air. His breath sounds muffled. I looked down there and I couldnt see anything, but I thought I felt something about two inches down from his beak possibly in his trachea. I dont know what to do for him! I didnt think he was going to make it, but he is on his third day now... can I do anything to help him pass this? I tried the upside-down shaking and he gasped harder (someone recommended that), so I stopped. The vet's not an option... please help me help him, he is my favorite roo.

Is his comb a good colour or is it darker or with a purplish tinge? I have to admit I really don't know what to suggest for you if the vet is not an option and you cannot see any blockage. Perhaps some olive oil soaked bread to try and dislodge whatever is stuck if you are sure that's what it is. I had a BCM roo that we had to put down as he was displaying similar symptoms to yours, but we think he had a heart issue. I hope your boy doesnt have the same problem. Good Luck.
