Hi there, any thoughts, suggestions & and or advice would be welcomed!

I have a 3 month old Indian Runner female that has over the last couple of days had more labored breathing - seems as if she can't breathe through the nose and opens her mouth to take air in. She produces a little wheeze/honk/gasp sound, though not desperate enough to suggest choking. Yesterday and the day prior I noticed that she was a tiny bit sluggish and not quacking, though today the breathing is audible and after letting them out this morning, she's moving slowly and standing off by herself in a corner of the pen staring off into space.
No interest in swimming and very minimal interest in food/water. Also worth mentioning, that her eyes look fine - no crusting over or major runny-ness, perhaps just very slightly watery.

I'm isolating her, and will give electrolytes and terramycin (unless there are better recommendations) - the last three weeks we've had dramatic temperature differentials back and forth and TONS of rain.

Thanks in advance for your time!

UPDATE: Also, just wondering if it is possible this is gapeworm instead of a respiratory infection. Does anyone have any experience they don't mind relaying w/ gapeworm in ducks?

THANK YOU!

Hi:

Gapeworm is named for the gapping reaction that poultry does.
They stretch thier neck out and "gape". It really is quite a unique looking thing they do.

However, in the early stages they may just shake their heads constantly and act like something is stuck in the throat.]

Can you look down the ducks mouth ? I think a duck is sorta like a chicken, but really I do not know. Look for small red worms in the trachea area or redness at the trachea opening.

Gape worm is a very serious malady, if you suspect it do research on this site and get LOTS of opinions and explained cures.

We are only experienced keepers of poultry, not vets.
