My girl in the past two days has barley been eating and every once in a while will stop and gasp for air today she's been worse not free ranging with the others she still drinks and pecks at the food a little bit, I treated her for gape worm with ivermectin but looking in her mouth I don't see any. She's the only one showing symptoms and there is no other signs of problems? What else can I do I'm worried if I don't do everything I can I'll loose her the only vet that treats chickens is 2 hours away and doesn't have openings for two weeks as their avian vet is gone :( what can I do?!

How old is she?

I am really sorry for your sudden loss of your chicken. I would try to get a necropsy done by your state vet on Monday to look for a cause of death. Refrigerate her body (do not freeze) and contact your state vet on Monday. Many will issue a Fedex shipping label for overnight shipping. It could have been gapeworms, ILT, a respiratory disease, or something else, but a necropsy is best.

Hi, So sorry you lost her, but whatever you do, please do not blame yourself. It happens to us all, on times, and when it does, it is so unfair on us all. As for your others, if any show similiar symptoms, come straight on here, as then you will get the best advice.
Especially you are unable to see vet. But fingers cross, the others will be fine. Had she stopped laying, thinking she might have been egg bound. ??? Just keep your eyes on
all of them, even if you notice one, with the same signs, and none of the others, seperate
her from the rest. then come straight on here for help. As there are experts on here
and will help all they can. But hope and pray, it was the one off. Even though it is still
sad, for you to go through. :love
