So apparently this morning at about 5:30am the dog starts going absolutely ballistic. Turns out there was a fox right outside the chicken pen. Well, he heard the dog and started moving away, stood in front of/looked inside the new coop we are building. Then my dad opened the door and he took off. According to my dad he thought Gator was going to go through the window then he ran out of the bedroom to the kitchen door and continued going ballistic, jumping on the glass. Woke my dad up. He let him out after he took off, marked around the pen. He wasn't happy.
Well, this afternoon I gave him a 2 foot long bully stick for a job well done LOL he was chewing it a while, ate about 1/4 or 1/2 of it then left it. Keeps leaving it and going back to it. He's outside chewing it again now. I gave him a much smaller one yesterday.
And no, a real alligator didn't scare off a fox. Now THAT would be something. Our dog is named Gator. Lol
Gator is half black Lab and half Great Pyrenees. I guess he took the Pyrenees half of his job seriously this morning
funny thing is though sometimes he sleeps through stuff.
Here's the texts my dad sent me this morning/afternoon (my phone was off so the first few say the time I turned my phone on, idk when they were really sent, the rest of it is real time).
Sorry for the kinda gross language in parts lol

except sometimes he sleeps through things, like a hawk attack and the neighbors dog running laps around the pen lol but thankfully no chickens were harmed. During the day he tends to fall fast asleep on the bed plus he looks towards the front yard not the back so he missed it. But at night he's on guard, repositioning every few hours. Plus I think the chickens probably made all sorts of noise that woke him up. He's actually not 100% ideal, he still occasionally has moments of chasing them or jumping at the fence to scare them and I still wouldn't trust him out when they're free ranging but he's definitely very very good about threats on the property. We only got the chickens in October and he turned 4 in March so I think he bonded with a human flock rather than the chickens, he's more protective of the property and us tham he is the cat or chickens. But now he will lay outside next to the pen or within 20 feet or so and stand guard so that's nice. And if I try to brush the cat or trim mats off, both of which she hates, he gets upset. So he's definitely useful, even if he acts like he hates the other animals lol
