ETA: And another thing! Too often people on this site push this "Roosters will kill you" propaganda when the truth is if the bird is not abused IE: kicked, choked, picked at, etc. Is in his genetics, or he's doing his job to protect his ladies/territory the birds will not attack you. I have had over 200-300 roosters at one time (separated of course) and i think i may have only had..... Ten birds in my life time that would bite/flog people, though some will if you startle them (you are too right? someone randomly grabs you out of nowhere or freaks you out and you either think "hit " or "run") but that's not aggressive behavior, that is simply you misunderstanding them. People will tell you the same thing about dogs, horses, cats etc. You're just misunderstanding their actions at that time, it doesn't make them aggressive animals... So raising them from chicks helps some, but who it's raised by doesn't exactly.. I have bought many roosters from other people i wanted to breed into my lines or get started with a certain breed (like Old english bantams, i got a few pairs of full grown birds... I wasn't attacked once)...


Sorry if i seem angry, just a little agitated how people immediately think anyone who owns games or more than 2 roosters fights them. Same as dubbing...

I understand what your saying, and i wasnt saying that they try to kill you. My best rooster will flog me simply if I grab his hen. But i was saying most people use that excuse. And a razor saddle is just what ive always heard people call leather knife braclets. And saying that there intentions where to use him for cockfighting, maybe. Just didnt do it. I am not saying that they did use him or where planning to. It just sound wierd. And I understand everything you are saying. I agree with it all. I wasnt meaning it like you took it, and I can understand you thinking that now that I have read over what I posted. I was saying that too many people use that for an excuse. Sorry for the misunderstanding.​

Yup, sorry for getting mad and all it's just a too often thing that happens. And i know, you didn't say "they'll try kill you" or anything, that was mainly towards how a lot of people will push that because they're ignorant about them. Especially the games...

This mom did not say "Oh, we did that because blah, blah, blah." No. She didn't even KNOW till she was called on it.

Third Red Flag:

The rooster is underweight. Not a lot of effort put into caring for him. Someone who would chop off a comb to PREVENT FROSTBITE or MAINTAIN STANDARDS will also FEED THE CHICKEN!!!

There is no flaming or judging here. If it walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck.....
Or shall we ignore all the red flags here? If so, you send them some chicks to raise.

Its kewl. I understand. I have been trying to figure out for months the breed I am going to go into. I have multiple breeds now but I want to get into breeding one. I have kinda made my mind up in the past week to go with OEGB's, I love them. And yea it kinda makes me mad when people instantly think that they are for fighting. Thats why I am going with Bantams because I dont wanna have to worry if mine are sold, are they being used for fighting.

They wanted only roosters because in hawaii there are loads of wild chickens therefore they would have chicks, i wouldn't mind having just roosters myself. I love the hear them crow.. But i also have hens as i breed them for showing/i love chicks.

Just because the kids dubbed the rooster doesn't mean they're monsters, i dub my birds without help/supervision and know many people my age AND YOUNGER, even a 8 year old that dubs their old english bantams for show... It's all about the actions behind the cause, did they do it for pure looks, health, or did they do it because they loved to see blood and thought it was fun? ( i doubt it)

The bird was skinny so i agree they didn't take proper care of him. However many people who claim to know it all don't either, they have overweight birds and don't even know it, they don't have a regular worming method, they're not giving them the correct stuff they need to be fed and many other examples. That's a whole different story so i will not go into that though.

That's not too hard, just know what the person your selling to will do with them. Sell at shows and typically people who buy them will use them for showing. You should really go with what you like the best, and focus on it.

Even if Mom starts bawling out her kids, we can generally tell if she's being honest or not. Did she sound like a woman who was NOT wanting to admit they were going to fight the rooster? Yup, i'd probably defend them about the dubbing even if it was my bird. It doesn't bother me if they did it for a reason instead of just pure sick fun.


Many people are forgetting they're kids and do not know how to properly care for the birds, therefore they need someone to tell them how. Which is why many beginners who i talk to i try to help as much as i can.


And do you want to run that by me again why the logic doesn't hold up? all i have seen is people jumping on to cockfighting, and just calling them little monsters. That's not disproving it, that is ignorance. I do not care who you are either, i'll tell it as i see it. The main thing is that we do not know the full details, so we can defend it or kill it but neither side will ever know the truth. This post is over 2 months old and we've been arguing the same thing back and forth the whole time... It won't change which is why i reported the thread to be locked/deleted.
