gave rusty water to chickens. Need help to determine if it'll harm them.

So I connected my water hose to a spigot in the backyard and I was thinking that the dark red water was just red mud but after I watered my chickens I looked it up and I am afraid it was rust. Is this water harmful to my chickens? I think the pipes connecting to that spigot is old.

Are you positive it was rust? If it was I would concerned about sharp bits puncturing intestines, or it poisoning them. @Eggcessive @Wyorp Rock @casportpony

yes i put the water in a cup and it smelt very metallic

Do you have a picture of the water? How saturated it is could be helpful to know

Likely. Running the hose for a minute or two should flush the line.
