My research made me aware that it's too small to keep them in there permanently, but it's not bad to have if I need to do work around the yard, or if I need to go out and feel they haven't eaten enough dinner before putting themselves to bed.

I guess battery hens are the other extreme :/. But these are pets!

All prefabs seem to be far too small. And I'm disappointed the roosting poles / perches are smaller than my research tells me they should be. AND lower (same height as nesting boxes, and with bedding, the nesting boxes will be higher! So I'm going to have to give them wider, higher roosting poles soon).

i had to remodel a coop that I bought because the roosting bar was too high lol and my two heavy English chocolate Orpington hens couldn’t jump up that high ha ha ha ha ha ha

i use deck screws and first i screwed a one foot section of 2 x 4 into each end of wooden roosting pole ( i also used a 2 x 4 for that that I sanded ) and then from the outside of the coop I screwed through the outer wall into the end sections of two by fours. my coop is all built out of heavy wood it was made by a local carpenter, not exactly a prefab. I also had to add an extra window and it seems like there’s never enough ventilation either in anything until we add more

This is what the roosting poles are mounted on. Thin pieces of U-shaped wood that's screwed in, then the poles can be removed (or knocked over, even by 6-7 week olds).

The cedar is pretty soft and thin so I'm not sure how to modify.

I emailed the seller and he said they've been using this for 10 years and their chooks are perfectly happy.

Where's that "I don't believe you" meme 😂

Man .. I'm almost considering cutting my losses and just buying one of those huge metal coops that look like a shed. They're just ugly. Well, and expensive 😂.
