Gearing up...getting incubator ready...but have questions...

ok. I'm using the Octogon 40 dx incubator (anyone else use it?) It says it has an evaporation pad, which is not with it, to help in higher humidity levels. Do I REALLY need this evaporation pad? How long do I need to run the incubator before setting the eggs? My temp is right on already, but the humidity is only at 30% right now.

I kept my humidity in the mid 20's until lockdown and then raised it up to 65-70%. Have you read anything about the "dry incubation method"? It worked really well for me. My hatch last weekend had 20 chicks and this weekend, so far, I have 7 chicks hatched and several more pipped.
