Geese biting

Hi, I have two geese one is a tufted roman and the other is a African there are a few months old but today I went outside to refill there pool I noticed that the African would bite the neck of the roman can someone tell me why it does this?

Geese are very terretorial (yes, I'm pretty sure I spelled that wrong) birds. They can get aggressive with other birds including geese. We have a flock of 8 (Toulouse, African) and fights seem to be a part of everyday life, especially when the different pairs have goslings. I have never seen them go for the neck though...

It looked like they were trying to mate though!

The African goose was trying to mount the Roman? Are they a male - female pair? Do they stick together a lot? Mating might have been what they were doing. Every time I see geese mate it always seems to be in a kiddy pool.

Probably play acting, too young to actually mate but beginning to act it out. even 2 of the same sex will do this.

I didn't think about that before, but it makes sense to me. When most animals play it does prepare them for something in life, like running from a predator and other stuff like that. Thank you the all so wise Miss Lydia...

I see your point too, the geese would probably at least have to be about a year old before they started mating.

Thank you for the compliment but every thing I know I have learned from another wise person on here and we all learn from experience.

1 year is just a guess. We do have 6 geese but got them all when they were adults, we just now have goslings, so I haven't actually had too much experience yet. Still kind of new to geese.
