1 year is just a guess. We do have 6 geese but got them all when they were adults, we just now have goslings, so I haven't actually had too much experience yet. Still kind of new to geese.

Yep late winter you'll begin to see mating. My goose was 1 yr in April and her and my gander began mating in Jan of this year she laid her first egg Jan 31.

I must have forgot to mention that they were in there kitty pool! And they are my only geese so yes they stick together.

I have an Embden gander and a Toulouse goose, they started mating in Jan of this year and she laid and laid, and finally when it didn't look like she was ever going to stop I let her keep her last 9 eggs and she went broody sat for almost 2 weeks and when I candled none were fertile. Hopefully next year since she will be 2, my gander is 6yrs old.

Neat, we've considered getting some Embdens before, just don't to expand too fast. We have 8 geese, 4 Toulouse, 1 African, 2 Toulouse goslings, And a really odd mix we found walking around in the middle of nowhere. Out of a nest of about 20 eggs we only got two goslings so we haven't had really good fatality rates. (Probably too many eggs in the nest.) I know that some breeds of chicken have heavier feathering that gets in the way during breeding, could it be similar with geese?

I haven't ever heard of too much feathering being a problem since geese and ducks mate completely different than chickens I see it a lot with my fluffy butts I trim their feathers some times,[chickens butts not gooses] not that I need or want anymore chicks we are done for this year. I got my BA's and 3 ducklings from 1 hatch so I am happy, It just doesn't seem spring without babies.

I am thinking too many eggs in the nest for the goose to incubate them properly. Maybe not let her keep them all next year. If I had 8 geese my dh would probably leave me. lol although he likes my birds he knows how I am and that I would have many more than my 41 total I have now if I had the building and acreage. What does your mix look like and please tell the story on that one.

With how many babies we have I am starting not to like spring.

My dad keeps charge of how many animals we get/ what we do with them, so we don't have any problems with that. It kind of helps when my mom gos along with things though. I will try to send a pic of the mix, but I've been having troubles with the photos on other threads, so I'll try to get that up some time soon. (might be a couple of days.) We live near Malabar Farms and people drop of ducks and geese that they do not want all of the time. They kind of live wild. We got permission to take some of them from the manager as long as we could catch them. We ended up with two Toulouse, one African, the mix, and two ducks. We somehow managed to capture the bonded pairs of geese. We think that the mix is a Canada goose crossed with an African but we don't know. I think I'll post the pic of the mix on a different thread so I don't take this one off topic. (If I haven't done so already.)
