Anyone currently doing this? How is it working out? I have 14 ducks and 2 geese. The geese are almost full sized now. They all swim on the pond together. The geese keep to themselves somewhat but once in the pond they all sorta swim together. Out of the pond- the geese go their own way. Just try it and see if it works? Or no bueno?

We want to build them a goose house but we are still debating if we want more geese later on and don't want to build too big if we decide not to, nor do we want to under-build if we decide 2 is not it for us. Building materials are extremely expensive so cost is a huge factor in this. Our feed build for our modest farm is much greater than we had anticipated so we are trying to be smart and careful. Thanks!

You could try it. It mostly depends on how big the duck house is. If the duck/goose house is big enough it might work for now. Geese are more like goats in their need for space. I would not want to put them in too small of a house or I would worry the geese will hurt the ducks. If the space is big enough you could partition it. This might give you enough time to find out if you may want more geese or not. You would definitely need to separate them before nesting season. My advice is going strictly from what I have read others say. Hopefully someone with real experience will post.

Thanks guys- I will try putting in a little bit of a split so that they geese can pair up in a spot in the coop. My husband however is concerned that my randy drakes might try to mount my goose or gander? I think Sarah would kick duck butt if anyone got near her though.

My ducks are 16-20 weeks old (varied ages) and the drakes are all at the older end of that and mounting the ladies like crazy. Should I be concerned when my geese are like 9 weeks old? My biggest drake is a Pekin and he is the most sexually aggressive. The other 2 drakes are pussy cats and non aggressive.

I've never had any luck housing them together. The geese are almost always the ones instigating the fights especially during the breeding season.

Oh we would most definitely know if we want more geese by the time breeding season hit and we would be removing the geese from the duck coop. I want to see these geese over 2 more seasons - I need to see if we can handle more. They are sweet as can be to us- but the female is a bit sassy to my daughter and small pets.

That defiantly sounds like a good plan. My female geese seem to be a bit sassier to the other birds as well. I just can't seem to get a sweet gander anymore

We're your geese raised around your ducks? I defiantly think this makes a huge difference as long as it's not breeding season.

Chuck is THE sweetest guy so far. He is very chill and calm. He is just starting to get a little honky in his voice. So cute! He never goes after any of the kids or animals. Even the ducks...he leaves them be. But Sarah...man that goose is a sass monster. She is much much better around the ducks now though. It seems like she established her 'queenship' or something and now she swims around like a princess and doesn't seem to mess with the others much.
