Hi! I have 2 female geese and a male. They have recently started laying eggs but I'm not sure which one is making a nest. So far there is 11 eggs in the nest. About how many more do they lay until they start sitting on them?? I believe they're African geese?? I'm not sure the breed.

Geese lay for a few months and if you let them brood a nest now you will not get anymore eggs after that. Taking up the eggs early in the season and then letting them have a nest full later in the Spring to hatch is one way of doing things.

My geese generally will start to sit on the nest and get super protective when they are ready to brood. I don't keep a gander and so I discourage this behavior by taking the eggs. I was using a rock as a weight in the nest tray and she took that as an egg and started to brood that. Eggs stopped for a week until I figured her out and took the rock away.

By the end of their laying season they are super broody of even an empty nest and I have to close the coop door to keep them out during the day for their own health.

I also have Super Africans with chin flaps (dewlaps). :)

Oh okay that helps alot. I wasn't really expecting eggs any more but they have just kept laying and this is the first time I've gotten eggs from them and was wondering if either female would lay on them or what I should do. I will try and post of Pic of the geese
