Geese Geese Geese

I have a female pilgrim goose as a pet. I hatched her from an egg and she sleeps on my bed with me at night, she tolerates strangers mostly, but when they're in "her" place or just too many close by, she sometimes gets scared. Most of the time she's also very quiet.

There's also a male toulouse I know who chases cars. Pilgrims are supposed to be mild geese, and I'm also guessing that females would be a lot better for that. So, geese can definitely be nice.

We have not had any problem with the Sebastopol Geese getting mean or aggresive. They do get a little protective of their mate when their breeding season.comes around. Mine line up for my husband to pet them when he does their feedings and he says they get their feelings hurt if he misses petting one of them. Dorothy

Dave Holderread is coming out with a new version of his duck and goose book. He just about has it finished. I recommend it highly for anyone raising waterfow. It is around $25.00 and I think that covers the shipping also. Dorothy

If you are willing to read online, the following site has a complete copy of Dave Holderread's "The Book of Geese" IMO one of the best goose books ever written! It was put up there to help 3rd world farmers to learn about one of the best livestock to have on a small farm, Geese

Wow, thanks for the link goosedragon. I read through the first 50 pages or so and am going to purchase it from the Holderreads for my library. It's great to be able to see what is actually in a book before buying it!

Thank you! That is why I come here every day, to share the resources and experience that I have picked up over the years. There is a lot of 'Stuff' to be found on the Internet, once in a while I find a Gem worth passing on to others.
