Geese losing feathers; mites?

Our 3 month old goslings are losing a lot of feathers. Is this normal, or do they have mites? (We haven't seen any on them yet but their down is super thick, it's hard to even find their skin).

We do have a spray for mites against chickens that we could use on the geese as well, but I'm not sure how to spray waterproof feathers! Just under their wings? Or in a different manner? What is the general anti mite strategy for geese?

Yeah I know grown geese molt around now, but I can't find anything on whether the young ones molt right after they've grown into their big bird feathers!

Mine are molting right now too. And they are around 3 months as well.(they are 10 weeks) Is there a reason why you think its mites?

ok good to know!

Our chickens had mites and they live in the same fairly small garden, so I was afraid they'd be infected due to close proximity.

Glad I could help! If you are still uncertain you can check the feathers they drop. An see if they are damaged (from the mites) in there coop you can put D.E. in there coop.

(Sorry for not replying back right away.) Some times you can find larva (sorry if I spelled that wrong.) Inbetween the bristles (dont know what you call that part). Orange looking. You can find pics on google
