Why do Canada geese ruffle their feathers?

Geese, ducks, and other waterfowl can ruffle their feathers for the following reasons: They sometimes will ruffle their feathers after a bath to shake some of the water off or if some of their feathers are a bit rumpled or out of place. There are a few other reasons but these two are the most common.

It seems like they do it more when other geese come close to them.. I noticed that.

Yep my gander will do it to me during breeding season like he is saying don't get too close. Lil stinker.
