Geese wont sleep in run

hey i have 2 Embden geese (m/f ) they are about 6 months old , even though we have tried they wont sleep in a coop at night. they love to sleep right next to our back door and under my rose bushes, In the spring/ summer this isn't an issue but since temps are starting to drop . i live in the midlands in SC so we don't get tons of snow but i am lost on what to do to keep them warm from the frost and ice we do get ? Any ideas welcome !

How big is the coop?

Also just don’t ask them kindly, they won’t go in the coop. I found positive re enforcement helps with ducks and geese.

Just get them some lettuce or grapes and lure them in there until they go in there themselves

i dont remember the excite size but it was big enough for the 2 of them to be comfortable , im thinking maybe because its on the back side of the yard and they want to be at the back door .. we are looking into more options, i just hated hearing them honk in distress after being locked up

It’s hear them honk and cry or worry constantly about them out in the cold

Geese just hate everything new and love routines.

I just moved house with my two geese, which meant new sleeping arrangements. It took them about two weeks to be comfortable in their new night quarters. First week with a lot of honking and knocking on the windows. Now they love it, and when it gets dark they go inside by themselves and wait for me to come close the door.

I wouldn't worry too much about the cold winter. Geese are built for it. But predators are very active at night, and they will find your geese sooner or later if they're not locked up.

Well, this is pretty elaborate, but I got an automatic cat feeder

Well, this is pretty elaborate but I got an automatic cat feeder, put it in the goose shelter. It allows me to record my voice calling the geese and it then dispenses feed at a certain time. Helped with setting a routine. I set it every 15 minutes for about a hour. Was tricky to get it timed with the automatic door. It took a few months for them to get the hang of it. They did initially really prefer to be outside, but now they go inside by themselves. What a process!

Wow, that is one high tech solution! Didn't even know those things existed. I'm truly impressed. I love that you'd do that for your geese.

Well, thanks, but I did it for myself cuz I'm lazy. I do value routine and want to keep the geese at peace and feeling safe. and healthy.

Well Embdens are pretty good at staying warm, but I get what you mean.
Do they love their food?
If yes then you could guide them in with food and give them a little food and water in their coop.
When my Embdens (m/f) were goslings I put food and water in their goose house and they now (6ish months old) don't mind being inside especially now in December (I'm on Vancouver Island so it doesn't really get bad at all, but I grew up in Alberta so I know what cold feels like, lol.)
I also put them to bed when it's "dark" out so they kind of understand why they need to go inside for safety. Plus we've had a black bear close around here. My geese haven't been out at night so that probably plays a roll. I would just bribe them with food or something they like and if you have to just put them in there and give them a treat and leave. They will most likely not love it but I'm sure they'll understand eventually.

My two Embden geese (m/f) are in a dog house, it's the perfect size and they like/talarate it. Mine don't really like being coopped up, but better be safe then sorry.

When I put them to bed they stand at the door and watch me leave with a little sad squeak. Then in the morning when they see me from the door they honk softly and are so exited to get out and see me with the food. They're so precious.
