Geez, Mass SPCA must have money to blow....

Sure, but if I'm not in a hurry, I try to make a point that not all their customers are sheeple.

It's actually become a sort of game. The cashiers all know me, and I come up with some truly off the wall numbers. They are generally laughing as I walk away with my goods.

Then they would want your address!

I didnt have a problem giving them my phone number or zip code. Since it is out of town and I am guessing where all their customers are coming from, from different towns or even states.

All I get is a flyer coupon from TSC and most of it I can not use because I only buy chicken feed.

How do you know it was "really " from the SPCA. Sorry but I don't trust anyone with any personal information over the phone. Not a wise thing to do. I tell them "I don't do business over the phone". I advise everyone else to do the same. Sorry it's not paranoia its just common sense these days to be private.

Exactly. While we were visiting my dad in Florida he gets a visit from a man in a suit, all business-like. Dad sits down and immediately starts writing this guy a check for $5,000. I pulled my DH aside and told him I wasn't comfortable with what my dad was doing; so DH starts questioning the man. Turns out the guy was on the up and up, but he just as easily could have been a scammer. In the retirement village my dad lives in they do have scammers that go around to the different houses. All they need is one "sucker" that doesn't check credentials.

There was a guy in Portland several years ago that would knock on your door ask if you had change for a 100.00 bill, when the little old lady went and got her purse he would grab it and run. You never know about people, he was dressed in a cheap suit when he was caught.

No way I am giving a animal rights group ammo to accuse me of something.

While even legitimate SPCA survey info could be sold to groups such as AR groups, the term 'SPCA' used to refer to unconnected local shelters only (ASPCA is the national group). However, now there is an SPCA International umbrella organization, further confusing the terminology and welfare versus AR.
