You can always put on some safety glasses and take a hammer to the bigger grit on a slab of steel or concrete to make it smaller... The birds don't need much...

Or try a real garden supply store, granite grit is commonly used in the bottom of planting pots or mixed in with potting soil to make it drain faster so a lot of plant nurseries stock it...

Or hit up the local pet store and visit the aquarium gravel section and get a few different sizes of 'uncolored' natural gravel, crushed with edges not the round stones...

My feed store carries three sizes of grit as well as a mixed bag all size... There is a huge difference between the size of chick grit and adult grit, so it's probably best to offer some variety of sizes if you have mixed sized birds...
