When we chose/bought our two Anconas in May, they were vent sexed to be a male (Freckles, with freckles on his cheeks) and a female (Patches, with patches on her cheeks). However, over the last few months, we've determined that Patches is actually probably a male -- she/he has the curled up tail feathers like Freckles... they have the same type of voice... they're the same size...

I'm posting a video I took a couple days ago. [Sorry for my daughter's talking (*chuckle*). She is an enthusiastic egg-collector.

You'll also see how Wade, our white Muscovy male, picks on Freckles. This was one of the other reasons we continued to believe Patches was a female, because she/he and Wade actually get along. Patches follows Wade around. Wade doesn't 'protect' his chocolate girls from Patches, etc., etc.

If you're able to see and hear them well enough in this video, I'd love some opinions as to whether you think Patches is male or female. We really wanted a mating pair, wanted a female for eggs, bought them sexed for such the reason. I won't be mad if Patches is male -- we still like her/him and accidents happen -- but we'll need to figure something else out.

Thanks for your time and thoughts!

Well, poop. Like I said, we thought so... but we were sure hoping for some unknown-to-us magic bit of information that would make the duck-world right again.
