We picked up 8 "sexed" chicks at our local feed store 6 weeks ago. This one I fear might be a roo. 6 weeks today. It's a silver laced cochin. Legs are huge and thick, waddles (we have a few 9 week olds that barley have waddles), stance, slow to feather etc. we sadly are not allowed to have roo's, I hate to have to part with it. My intuition correct??

I'm not familiar with the breed, but generally, the waTTles of males begin turning red much sooner than this; so, if you were holding a gun to my head and making me guess, I'd say pullet. Again, though, I'm not familiar with the breed at all. Also, there is never a 100% guarantee that the sexing is right. It's a demanding skill to sex day-old chicks, and they're not always right. I'll cross my fingers that it's a pullet, though!

ETA: GREAT pics, by the way. Your post/pics could be the poster child for how to submit a gender question! Kudos.

Yes the fact that the waddles aren't red yet is my only hope. ;)

And yes I know they aren't guaranteed...they told us 90% ;)

This was it at 4 weeks. That's when I first noticed the waddles and how thick the legs were
