Gender Identification

Hey all, I am fairly new to this website. I recently have had five new ducklings. They’re all cute. I have looked online how to identify the gender and most say you have to wait until four to six weeks to tell. I am wondering if there is a pretty easy way of identifying them as they grow. They are about one week old at the moment so I have time. I just wanted the communities input. Thank you.

Welcome To BYC! there are ways to tell with vent sexing but you have to be an expert. otherwise I'm not sure if there are sex-linked ducks?

The golden 300 hybrid is sexlinked.

As for vent-sexing ducklings, I'm told it's much easier than it is with chicks. Rather like sexing rabbits, actually. There are vidoes on youtube. I've never tried it, as you can harm the duckling, and I just don't care that much. By the time I'm ready to separate, I can usually tell just by looking.

The way I sexed my two ducks with solely by voice and then as they got older, my drake got his drake feather in. My female was insanely loud-she started quacking earlier than most. My drake has that real raspy, low sound. I wasn’t comfortable enough to do vent sexing, but the voice sexing worked in my favor. I knew I had a hen and drake by about 6 weeks. Like I said though, my female started quacking super early. Voice sexing will probably take a few more weeks before they stop the peeping.
