from Ohio. So glad you joined. The bird by the fence looks like it has saddle feathers, so it is a roo. Anytime you want to ID a bird, provide side views of the birds body not just the head. I think the nest boxes are a little to deep for a chicken. I know mine like to be able to see out of the box. I would try shavings in them. Are they eating the straw or just taking it out?
