Gender nomenclature when describing breeding crosses

I do it both ways, but when describing my current mix; I usually say~ RIR {male, sire}X White leghorn {female, dam}
Would be nice if there was a common way...to avoid all that extra typing :D
I've always used male x female...guess I better stop doing that and add more detail.

Well, I don’t actually put what’s in the brackets, but for the sake of this thread I did. I guess it would’ve been easier to say male x female :lol:

Use this to link references. Among terrestrial tetrapods, male listed first.

My background is with aquatics. Hybridization, natural and otherwise, much more prevalent there. Discerning parentage often reliant upon use of mitochondria which comes from female side, most of time. Therefore female side given more importance and often dominant in how it impacts phenotype of F1 offspring.
