Hey everyone! I just got three new chicks 😍 Their dad is a copper Maran and their mom is either a White or lavender Ameraucana! Just looking to see if you guys can tell what I’m dealing with!

*Each headshot means it’s a new chick!

Thanks in advance!

Fingers crossed it’s good news! 😂😅

I am no expert..it is still too young to tell.

Personal experience that some of the chicks hatched from mother hen I found that if the chick had dad's feather colour, it is a hen, if it has mom's feather colour is a rooster. It is fun to guess...

Certain breed came with a small dot/certain colour mark on their bodies that might help with guessing the gender.

Have fun guessing. They are so very cute❤️

That combination of breeds and colors does not create sex-linked chicks. It also doesn't give you reliably feather-sexable chicks. So at 1 week they're far to young too tell sexes.

Over the next 1-9 weeks you're looking for suddenly larger or pinker combs and /or wattles. 9-12 weeks you're going to start seeing male saddle feathers on the males.

Feel free to post updated pics as they grow and we can try to guess. It would also be useful for future reference for others looking to learn how to tell gender in straight run chicks.or even looking to confirm suspicions on their own chicks.

Update: well not what I want to be typing right now at all. I woke up this morning to them all passed. I have no idea what happened. The brooder was still very warm. And they were eating and drinking last night until their little crops were full. Im absolutely devastated. I was so excited to see them grow up and against my better judgement I had gotten attached. Maybe they got too cold? Maybe I should have brought them inside from the barn? Idk…But I’m gonna not get anymore until spring. I’ve learned my lesson.

Thanks everyone. Really appreciate the thoughts.

See you in the spring!

That’s so sad. I’m so sorry

I’m so sorry for your loss. I always get attached too, even to birds that I know are roosters destined to be dinner. :/
