Gender of two 8-week Dominiques

Hi! I recently got 6 chicks, and these two are my Dominiques. I would greatly appreciate any educated guesses on their gender, especially from anyone with experience raising Dominiques. I’ve been searching through the gender questions concerning Dominiques and was able to obtain the following two gender distinctions: shape and size of the comb is more relevant than the redness of the comb, so males will have a decent size rose comb with some small wattles. The pullets tend to be darker in color than the cockerels, while the cuckoo pattern on males contains more white feathers. They are about 8 weeks old.
This is chick 1, I’m thinking this one is pullet.

Chick 2 is by far the friendliest bird in my flock. I’m not allowed to have roosters, so I’m praying (s)he is a pullet. All of my chicks eat out of my hand and usually come to perch on me, but this one always greets me and flies up to my arm or shoulder. (S)he loves to nestle into my hand while I pet her head, neck and back. Both of the dominiques have similar combs and leg thickness; however chick 2 has more white on her than chick 1, which has me worried. The white bars on her/him are smaller than the black bars. Any thoughts on their gender?

Both look like pullets. If there was a cockerel it would be chick # 2.

Thanks for the warm welcome! I appreciate everyone's input. Are there any other physical traits that make chick 2 look like a rooster besides its lighter appearance and redder comb? I'll probably add several update photos until they crow or lay an egg.

Nope, the lighter color and redder comb are pretty much the classic signs of barred birds being male.

IMO, I think you have 2 pullets. #2 is just maturing a bit faster. The crow or the egg will be the deciding factor!

Thank you for your input, I'm thinking they are both pullets, too. They are both dark, with black bars being wider than the white bars. Here is an updated picture


They are almost 11 weeks old in this photo. I’ve been obsessing about all of my chicken’s genders since I got them, and I have been searching the ‘what breed or gender is this?’ forum to compare my birds to. My family thinks I'm nuts

, but seeing how 1 of the 6 chicks I got is a rooster and will be swimming in soup soon, I want to know which chickens I shouldn't get more attached to.

Anyone else have a guess to Chick 1 and Chick 2's gender? I'd like to give them proper names, but I want to wait until I know their genders.

Have you determined the sex yet? My Dominique roo sprouted waddles at 6 weeks! I think you have two pullets.
