I was given these two chicks in a trade. They were supposed to have been two pullets, but now that their feathers have grown out more, I think they are both cockerels. The saddle feathers on both are pointy (right?). One of them has skinny pointy neck feathers, but the other’s neck feathers are not as pointy. I initially thought I might have one rooster and one hen, but the saddle feathers are pointy on both.

The father is an Australorp. I don’t know what breeds the mothers are. The person who traded with me is willing to take back the rooster and let me pick out a hen. Before I ask him to trade for both chickens, I wanted to check with the chicken community to get your thoughts on the genders.

Also, he is going to let me pick from 6-8 week old chicks of the same crosses. How would I even know to pick out the pullets? Thank you!

They are gorgeous!!! When I saw them I was like  I wonder what the cross is. For the one with the flatter comb maybe Wyandotte? They tend to be pretty iridescent.

I’m looking for a rooster right now… is this guy anywhere near Vermont? ;)
No, not near Vermont. 😁 They are beautiful. I gave them back to their previous owner and am hoping to get hens from a subsequent hatch when they are old enough to sex reliably.
