Ok so am starting a pool on whether Sam, Pippin and Merry are male or female 😁😁

Just for fun, no prizes but I'd love to know who gets it right ...

Pippin won't be able to be accurately sexed unless they do or do not lay an egg at 9+ Weeks as they're pure white 😁 But my personal guess is male, based solely on the fact he's curious and confident. Same with Merry, I'm guessing male here too as he's even bolder than Pippin. Sam tho I'm leaning towards female, based purely on the fact she wants absolutely nothing to do with me 😅

Place ur bets below 😂😂😂

I'm not sure if your quail are coturnix, and I'm not sure if coturnix gender clues are the same as button quail. However, that said, just for fun, my guess is that Sam and Pippin are hens and Merry is a roo :)

Theyre buttons and most are feather sexable (except whites) Males rust up (get red or, in the case of silvers, pink vent feathers) and most males of the colour varieties have more solid colouring whereas the females of the same varieties tend to have more broken or speckled colouring. The rusty feathers can start appearing as young as 2 weeks up until about 6 weeks. Usually if a bird hasn't rusted up by 6 weeks or/and have a broken colouring then ur almost certainly got a female. But!!! I had a traditional male who kept female traditional colouring until 8 weeks then literally overnight his blue red and bib appeared ... was bizarre 😂

Your button quail are beautiful. Are they tamed? They look like they're happy. How hard is it too tame button quail vs coturnix quail? I have tamed coturnix quail, my males in particular like being pet.

Only my max is silly tame, the others will eat out my hand but thts the extent. Max was a singleton hatch n we just bonded xx

I have found that males will happily come and sit on my hand and see what I've got for them, my females tend to hold back and wait til the boys have shown its safe n then theyll come close but they won't take food from me they get fed by their boys xx

I'm almost 80% sure they're all hens 😁 I'm going off behaviour with the white Pip ... started making tht egg guarding noise xx
