Hi - I've been browsing here for the past two days and think I have a pullet but I'd love some input. We found this young chicken in our shed earlier this week. We assume she came from the local bantam-ish (Serama-x?) flock of very small birds that we see being eaten by cats, dead by the road, etc. We're in the city (Tampa) so it's not the safest spot for chickens so this one will be staying with us as an indoor/outdoor. This one somehow got over our fence and into the shed high on a shelf and was cornered by our dogs. She's super sweet like the Serama I had a few years ago and my only other chickens were OEG hens years before that so my chicken experience is limited. I guess her to be 5 or 6 weeks old but really don't know anything about her. Her temperament seems hen-ish in that she ducks when anything lands near her. Her comb is pretty yellow but she has pointy tail feathers, altho they are pretty long for her assumed young age. If anyone can give me any real opinions on her gender but also breed and age (or how I can make a better guess), I'd be very grateful! I hope these pictures show enough of her/him to give somebody some ideas. Thanks!

Sorry I can't be of help but

looks similar to my california white. This one is 10 - 12 wks old and has the one black feather and a few other super small grey ones. Not all of the breed have those though

Kevin: Thanks! and Stephanie, I didn't even think of that! Thanks for the input. Boy or girl -- any guess?

Kmatt: Wow, they sure do look similar. Is that a pullet? S/he's a pretty bird

i've been told that it is a pullet. This is my first time with chickens so i've been relying on pictures online and the opinions of people on here :)

oh and yours looks closer to the age of mine. I'd guess 10 wks maybe 11

Kmatt and Aoxa: I think mine is closer to the age of both of yours for sure. She had to clear a 6 foot fence and cross a yard and fly up on a high shelf so 5 or 6 weeks would be mighty young for that, don't you think? I'm going with 11 weeks. Cathy sure is a pretty girl. I've only had wheatons and never thought of having a white bird. They sure are gorgeous. Any idea what mix Cathy might be? Mine must be frm the local flock which are all tiny birds -- smaller than my old english hens.

i'm not sure what cathy could be. i'm very new to chickens :)

On other posts i've seen pictures of pure with EE, think that might be a possibility? Whats her personality? I know my california white is very flighty and skittish...those are traits from the leghorn in her genes :P

What size are old english hens? i don't have any experience/knowledge of them
