These are the parents

You might be right about the mother being an Austra White, but the father is not a Rhode Island Red. I think he's a mix of some kind, because he doesn't look quite right for any pure breeds I know of. If any of his daughters lay blue or green eggs, then he's an Easter Egger. Otherwise, he's a barnyard mix.

Pea comb.

He's got one copy of the pea comb gene, and one copy of the not-pea comb gene.

We can be sure of that because some of the chicks have pea combs and some have single combs like their mother. (Single comb is recessive, pea comb is dominant. So a chicken with both genes will show a pea comb.)

The rooster's pea comb is pretty large because he's only got one copy of the pea comb gene. Two copies make the comb and wattles smaller, like in Brahmas and Buckeyes and Dark Cornish.
