My neighbors had a guinea randomly show up at their house, pecking at the window one night. They've adopted it and are wondering what gender it is. Can anyone please tell me if it's male or female from the pics she sent me?

Guineas can't be sexed from photos. They can be sexed from the sounds they make. Hens can "buckwheat", cocks don't.

It is most likely that it is a cock whose mate got killed on a hidden nest by a predator.

The best thing to do for it is to rehome it to someone that has a flock of guineas.

They've mentioned getting a buddy for it. Since I know nothing at all about them, how many does it take in a flock to be happy?

I never recommend having fewer than ten for proper flock dynamics. They are a flock bird and do best with large numbers of other guineas.
