Gender?

These are Pig and New, my two Guineas. They have two different calls so I'm pretty sure one is a girl and one a boy. I just wanted to see if their appearance was any clue to their gender. (Figaro just wanted to say hello as well).

Nope, wattles at that age aren't definitive... they are really too small to tell how they will turn out, plus males can have flat wattles, Hens can have cupped wattles or anything in between, and they can both have one of each... so I rely on buck-wheating only to determine which of my birds are Hens at that age. Males will not buck-wheat, ever.

The one on the left has the repeated syllable call and the other one ah-AKKs (I guess that is buck-wheat?)

You can go to youtube and search for videos of male and female Guineas making their different calls. Buck-wheating sounds like they are saying buck-wheat, puh-track... or some even say it sounds like the Hens are saying butt-crack, lol. At 10 wks old the buck-wheating should be pretty obvious if you have a Hen tho.

yea. ours were buck-wheating at 10 weeks and the boy didn't stare making thier sound till a few days ago. ours will be 12 weeks old this sunday.

Very new to guineas - what is buck-wheating? I have 10 guineas that just left their coop this past week. So far, so good! They are all roosting in the trees over the coop pen at night and then hanging in and out of the pen with ducks and broilers during the day.

There are some videos on you tube if you have to know NOW, but I assure you you WILL know it when you hear it!
