We have been told if they are yellow when born they are male and brown is female

Who told you this? Do they know what breed and color the parents of those chicks are?

I hatch red chicks that are both male and female. I hatch yellow chicks that are both male and female. Color doesn’t mean a thing unless you know the parents of those chicks.
