Genealogy, OMG, please stop me.

My dad was from east Tennessee and I can tell you, the old joke about them all being related is true. BUT, not closely LOL. Like no, sisters and brothers and first cousins didn't marry each other but if you look, you'll see that some how, some way, most of these folks in these rural areas are somehow related simply because there weren't that many opportunities to meet people from outside the area.

Ignorance makes one a redneck, not lineage

I found out that around 1900 that a relative of mine married a bi-racial man. I found out through the federal census. I asked my grandfather about it and he said he knew, but didn't want to tell me and wanted me to find out myself. I think it's awesome that a family member crossed boundaries years before it became commonplace. I also have traced back my family to many royalty, King of Sweden, Norway, and Denmark, King of Scotland, and Emperor Charlamagne is my 38th great grandfather.

I started my ancestry search years ago by accident. I was looking for my father, whom I hadnt seen since since I was 8. All the research I did, I figured I might as well start putting pieces of the puzzle together. Funny thing is, I found my 1/2 sister & her family on Facebook!
As for Ancestry.com--I took advantage of their trail period once when I was on vacation. I had planned to use the time specifically for research on my family tree. (I mostly do 'staycations.') Worked out great for me.
Havent found any deep, dark secrets, famous relatives or good stories, but there's always hope!

I recently got going on Ancestry dot com.

While I can trace one branch of my husbands family to the 900's, apparently my entire family hatched out in the mid 1800's.
